  1. Yep, good win again for the lads against a plucky if not unsportsmanlike Thackley. Next up in the FA Cup is Garforth Town at Welfare Park on 29th August. Before then we have Morpeth at home on Saturday 22nd and West Allotment Celtic on Wednesday 19th.

The Wansbeck derby with Ashington is on Monday 31st at Ashington, so its a hectic 2 weeks for the Teriers!

BTW - replica shirts are now available for £20 and £25, along with a range of polo shirts, jackets and hoodie.

  2. Bedlington went behind to Billingham Town tonight after three minutes, but produced a second half masterclass to come out 5-1 winners that saw them rocket to the top of the Northern League Division One.

The Terriers took time to settle and it was a defensive mishap which gifted the visitors the lead. Bedligton equalised before the break thanks to captain Peter Snowden. Early in the second half it was 2-1 when Shandran fired home from close range. Lee Ludlow made it 3 from the spot before Mark Sheeran scored his first goal for the club with a neat finish into the top cornder. The scoring was rounded off at the death when sub Gary McRoberts raced through to fire low past the keeper and in off the post.

This Saturday (15th), Bedlington start their FA Cup campaign with a 3pm kick off at home to Thackley from Yorkshire. Polo shirts, hoodies, jackets and replica tops are now available, with greater stock numbers available in the coming weeks. Its also hoped 60th anniversary badges will be received before the game.

    Photos online here.

(PS - I'd post this on the site but the login link on the bedlington.co.uk homepage isn't there!!)

  3. The Terriers went 1-0 down after sustained Horden pressure but Lee Ludlow equalised before the break with an overhead kick.

The Terriers enjoyed more possession in the second half and their class showed. CLinical finishing from Jamie Poole and Christian Graham ensured the points were int he bag.

A fantastic win against a decent Horden side and it means we've hit the groudn running.

A full report will be on the Terriers website probably today or tomorrow, photos will also be put on their in the next few days.

  4. Sorry Neil! Forgot to mention the Terriers presence! Well done Terriers... though didn't see you making an appearance yourself!!

I was only there for an hour, unfortunately I had to get back to work for a meeting.

I was waiting for you to come around fourgee but it seemed like everyone wanted to talk to you and I couldn't wait. Hope to see you at a game soon though and catch up.

  5. Must agree with the above, our stall for Bedlington Terriers FC was one of very few who actually represented something in Bedlington. Friends of Gallagher Park, Confetti, Looking Good and one or two others were about it.

With the forum being offered as an opportunity to local businesses and organisations at no cost - it was a good idea - just a shame so few took up the opportunity.

  6. The Terriers are holding their AGM at the clubhouse this Thursday, 16th July, starting at 7.30pm. Everybody is welcome to come along to see how the club is being run, discuss some of the issues affecting it and meet the people behind the scenes!

Season tickets also go on sale on Thursday night, priced at £85 for adults and £35 for concessions. :D

  7. Bedlington Terriers supporters have plenty to cheer about at the moment - without a ball being kicked. Having finished last season off in promising fashion, continuing their gradual year on year improvement by finishing in 14th position, Terriers co-managers Lowery and Perry have moved quickly to add to the strength and quality of their squad.

Having already retained the nucleus of last season’s team, who battled through an injury crisis like not seen before at Welfare Park, experienced players have been signing up on a regular basis with the aim of restoring Bedlington Terriers to a position of being able once again to challenge for honours.

Pride of place was the signing this week of Steven Bowey, a move which truly is a coup for the Northumbrian club, and one which has made the whole of North East non-league football sit up and take note.

A vastly experienced midfielder, Steven is known for his tenacious displays. Having started at Forest Green Rovers, he moved on to Bristol Rovers Steve before he came north to Gateshead, where playing for the Tynesiders 188 times.

After moving north of the border to ply his trade with Dumfries based Queen of the South (making 137 appearances and scoring 16 goals), he returned back to England and York City where he scored 7 goals in 42 matches. On leaving York he returned once more to Gateshead where another 9 goals were added to his total in 37 appearances.

Affectionately known as ‘Bowser’, last season he was player/manager at Newcastle Blue Star, leading them to victory in the play off final. Following the end of season release of all the Blue Star players and staff, Bedlington have succeeded in signing a man who is generally regarded as a great talent.

This signing is just one of many impressive additions to the squad. Other new players who have joined the Bedlington bandwagon for the coming campaign include:

Peter Snowden - a central defender and former skipper of the Blyth Spartans team which won the Unibond Premier Division two seasons ago.

Anthony Lund - at only 22, Anthony is already an experienced Northern League player, numbering Durham City and Sunderland Nissan amongst his former clubs. He is a skilful left sided wing back/midfielder who likes to get forward and is an excellent crosser of the ball.

Jamie Clarke - needs no introduction to Terriers fans as he has been around the Northern League now for many seasons and has proved himself a prolific goal scorer whichever club he has played at. He finished last season on 30 league goals and was Spennymoor Town were very disappointed to lose a player they consider a ‘legend’.

Jamie Poole -a left footed player who is most at home on that side of the pitch. An ex Blyth Spartans player he left them in January to join Seaham.

Lee Yorke - a midfielder who was with West Allotment Celtic before joining Team Northumbria last season. Another excellent addition to the squad.

As well as some new faces, the Terriers also see the welcome return by some familiar faces from more prosperous seasons:

Anthony Chapman - now 29, ‘Chappy’ now begins his 3rd stint in a Bedlington shirt

Suffered a broken leg when last playing for Bedlington Terriers, but is now back to the best which saw him help Bedlington to league and cup successes. He is an excellent passer of the ball and has stamina to burn, with a never say die attitude who can win games with his passing ability.

Steven Shaw - no stranger to the Terriers Steven had a season with us as a 17 year old before leaving to join Ryton. An attacking midfielder, Steven has for the last three seasons picked up the Player of the Year award at Ryton. Steven is a big lad whose extra height will provide even more ammunition at set pieces.

Christian Graham - confirmed as having signed on Sunday, Christian spent the early part of his career at Bedlington as part of the successful squad which won so many trophies in the first half of the decade, he finished last season at local rivals Ashington.

He also includes Whitley Bay and Blyth Spartans amongst his former clubs, and is another impressive addition to an ever-strengthening squad being assembled by Terriers co-managers Lowery and Perry. There is no doubt that the Terriers have ambitions to return to challenging for honours this coming season, after the well documented difficulties in recent years

The management team are now thought to have completed their transfer activity for the summer, apart from securing the services of a second goalkeeper to provide back up to incumbent Gareth Powell. However, fans are already very excited over the season ahead and looking forward to seeing the blend of new and old players. There is definitely a ‘buzz’ around town!

An off the field signing now confirmed, is the welcome addition of Perry Briggs to the backroom staff. Briggs first appeared at Welfare Park in the closing stages of the last campaign and it is now confirmed that he will be assisting Dean Gibb in the coaching and fitness roles at the Club. An effective foil as number 2 to Bobby Scaife for many years at Dunston Federation as they won trophy after trophy, Briggs proved himself as a manager in his own right when he stepped up into the top job before deciding he wanted a break from the frontline. Bedlington Terriers are delighted to have secured a signing which could prove to be as influential as any made on the pitch.

  8. channel 4 is !*!@# anyway  there's never nowt good on it only big b*llicks and other unwatchable pap!

Can't say its Channel 4s fault for showing Bedlington in a bad light. Bedlington is a !*!@# hole and the reason for that I put squarely at the councils door. Too much money has gone out of this town and up the road to ashington, they keep taking about Bedlington getting this new market place but its too late....if it'll ever happen at all. And now the new council refuses to guarantee the £500k from the sale of Bedlington golf course will be spent in Bedlington!

All the town needs is a bit of investment, sort out the wasteland near Tescos, convert Elliotts garage and the church hall and the whole place will be looking much better.

Nowt like sucking the life out of a town and watching it die whilst chucking money at a town like ashington!

The sooner Wansbeck council curls up and die the better....the question is though, will Northumberland Council do any better? Hopefully (but very unlikely) a Place in the Sun will make the council sit up and notice, a town with such a proud history deserves better.

  9. Unfortunately Neil, Terriers have had a lot of bad press over the last few years and lost the trust of the people of Bedlington, well documented on this site, due particularly to one family! At one point we were assured that they would never be involved with the club again, yet low and behold a few month later up they pop again involved with the club. You will have to get a good PR campaign going to win the trust of the people and businesses of Bedlington, especialy if you are looking for financial support,Good luck mate.....You'll need it!

Completely agree with the points that you make and yes we are fighting a battle, but its a battle we can win if people actually give the club a chance. Rest assured, only Keith is involved and only in managing first team affairs....even then, he only makes about one game in three due to other work commitments.

Rest assured, the club is absoutely being run correctly, it has to be or else the council would close us down. The AGM every year goes through the accounts and any problems people may wish to bring up, and they are addressed.

But with the people of the town not getting behind the club, only one thing will happen and that will be that Bedlington will be one of the largest towns in the North East without a team operating around the level we are at. We need support, just like we got less than 10 years ago when there was success, people just need to come to the club to witness the way it is run and the people who are involved. We have a hardcore of fans who make it to every home and away games and are renowned in footballing circles for the warm welcome we give our guests, and at home we have the same faces who turn out every week, which we are very grateful for. Yes we will make mistakes along the way (there isn't a course to go on as to how to run a non-league football club), but they will be honest mistakes and we will learn. But at times we do wonder just why we bother when support through the turnstiles is minimal and can be left scratching or heads as to why why don't make enough through the gates to pay for the match officials!

  10. If anyone has any photos of the big Bedlington games of the past to be featured on the new look website, please can you e-mail or pm me.

Ideally, we'd like a few more photos of the Wembley trip, the street parade after Wembley, Colchester, Scunthorpe, etc....

All photos used will of course have full credit given to the supplier!!!

  12. The Terriers have successfully avoided the dreaded drop and ended up Wansbeck top dogs finishing above Ashington to boot!

A great run in has prevented the troubles of last year and will allow the managers to build for next season, hoping to bring back the glory days. With some of the players already confirmed as staying with the club - there are plenty of irons in the fire to get a quality team back for next season - news will follow on the Terriers site over the summer.

Thanks to everyone who made it to Welfare Park - lets hope we see a lot more of you next season!

  13. Best bit of so-called "terrace wit" I heard was one cold night at Croft Park.

Blyth Spartans were giving Consett an awful beating and the Blyth Ultras, chaps you wouldn't expect to be familiar with the musical "Evita", started singing "Don't cry for me Consett keeper!"

Excellent, I'll remember that when we go 3-0 up on Saturday! Nice one! :D
