  1. The problem in Iraq has a direct correlation to Syria in that as much as Saddam Hussein was a peril in the country, ousting him has left this space for the ISIS rebels to fill.

As much as Saddam was no good he ruled with absolute power so none of the jihadists were able to use Iraq for the means that they are now. When we invaded/assisted in 2003 we removed the power from the state and as much as we tried to reinstate a democracy, the country has to be reliant on all sides within the country seizing the moment and creating a government that is able to withstand such forces.

Unfortunately this hasn't happened hence the rather simple take over which is taking place at the moment.

We can't go back in but feel compelled because we have already been there and acted as some kind of catalyst for the situation now.

And as GGG says Assad being voted back in is a sense of mis-achievement for the whole country but with an over ruling majority wanting Assad in power it's much like the struggle in this country in that people may have made the decision to vote based on the fact that there is nobody better to vote for.

It's a sorry state of affairs on the news at the moment with the Boko Haram and the shootings in America/Canada, Syria, Iraq and the Russia/Ukraine conflict.

I for one am glad I don't have to make the decisions that may dictate the lives of thousands.

  2. I don't personally believe that Iran is an enemy of ours but that something does need to happen to prevent further insurgency in Iraq as the ISIS movement gives more reason to go into Iraq than in 2003.

Damned if we do and damned if we don't like in Syria but it is appalling what is happening, however I wouldn't believe all of the hype with the mass executions as the photographs weren't verified independently and were limited as to what the mainstream media was showing you.

Either way something needs to be done irrespective of borders and history.

Tony Blair should also keep his tray shut.

  3. The registration system changed in June 2014 The new system is called 'Individual Electoral Registration'. You can register to vote anytime throughout the year.

    • You can now register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
    • Everyone is responsible for registering themselves. Under the old system the 'head of every household' could register everyone who lived at their address.
    • You need to provide a few more details to register – including your national insurance number and date of birth. This makes the electoral register more secure.

So much simpler than going into the council offices are sending off the paperwork.

Yesterday, there was a wall of Tesla patents in the lobby of our Palo Alto headquarters. That is no longer the case. They have been removed, in the spirit of the open source movement, for the advancement of electric vehicle technology.

Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal. Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.

    This is brilliant.

I personally think that the Chromecast wins hands down with the ability to TabCast (cast web pages to your TV) and a good selection of the android apps that I use to have their apps whitelisted.

Saying this I haven't tried the others but for a device that not alot of people are sure they have a use for I'm pretty sure most people would rather not pay the £100 premium for the roku and be left wondering where they are going to put the box with their TV on the wall :P

  6. "ChromeCast"

What's one of these? Sounds interesting...

It's brilliant and I use it all of the time for streaming all sorts to the TV in the dining room.

    Cheap and functional.

There's a massive range of apps developing support for the chromecast too.

Most recent which looks interesting is VLC are working on a plugin which trsnscodes on the fly from your local machine.

  7. I did this recently when moving.

Bill was circa £100 every month with Fibre broadband, phone package and line rental and Sky TV with sports packages.

Called them and told them I wanted to keep the phone and broadband but wanted to cancel the entire TV package as I was sick of paying nearly a hundred quid a month and not really having a chance to watch anything.

They offered me 10% off to which I replied no, they then said that they would speak to there boss.....came back and said that they could offer me 25% off but that was it. I refused again.

I had no intention of bartering a deal with them at this point as I just didn't want the extra expense.

Got a call a day later offering me 50% off my TV package for 12 months with sports included.

Now my bills come in at £59.90 with the package:

Sky Talk Anytime (including 0845 numbers)

    Sky Fibre 40/20

Sky TV - Entertainment Extra + Sky Sports (no HD bundle)

Pretty pleased and had no intention of bartering a deal but if I don't get it for the same after 12 months then I will cancel it completely. I can get enough content from iPlayer/Netflix to satisfy me, especially coupled with my ChromeCast so I can watch it on the TV without messing around with HDMI cables.

  8. Yeah, it's a shame that people can't just respect the work that has gone in.

We tend to automatically assume that this would be the young'uns but there is quite a bit of traffic from The Red Lion to the Market Place too.

Same happened with the planters at station. Most of the flowers ended up on the pavement.
