I'm researching the possibility that Hollymount may be a derivation of Holy Mount - it's an interesting theory.

Does anybody know the earliest record of 'Hollymount' as a place name in Bedlington - on a map or document, for instance. 1860 is the earliest I've found to date.

Michael Longridge (c1785-1858) died at Hollymount Hall in 1858. (source: six townships) The hall was said to be designed/built circa 1844 for John Birkinshaw (c1781-c1845). (source: The Lost Houses of Newcastle and Northumberland.)

Above does not take you back much further and certainly not back to Holy Mount. Good luck with the research.

When we had the heavy snow fall and I was confined to the house, January 2010, I did a bit of family research within FreeBMD. To pass a few more hours I joined as a transcriber and and transcribed a few B, M & D registra sheets to be uploaded to the BMD Database.

So when your using the site just remember one of the records you find might be one of the 55,331 I did:D

Don't know of any of my relatives that have been diagnosed with dementia but I see the local care homes say there have expert care for people with dementia : -

    Barchester Meadow Park Care Home

    Choppington Road, Bedlington NE22 6LA

    https://www.carehome.co.uk/carehome.cfm/searchazref/10004525MEAB

    Hartford Court Care Home

    Cumbrian Road, Cramlington NE23 1DA

It is a difficult decision should a family member have to move into a care home because of dementia. I would recommend that you first visit the home and ask questions to reassure yourself that the home has 'expert care'. If you become a Dementia Friend it will aid your understanding of the illness and may assist you to decide what you need to consider. My mother had dementia and my mother-in-law now has dementia. With support, people with dementia can and do take an active role in life. https://www.dementiafriends.org.uk/register-digital-friend

  4. Recently came across this Network and I had a good feeling when I gave stuff away rather than taking it to the local tip.

The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 5,319 groups with 9,202,164 members around the world, and next door to you. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and neighborhoods. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by local volunteers.

  5. The UK voted to leave the EU by 52% to 48%. People in Northumberland voted strongly in favour of leaving the European Union. Perhaps our local councilors can advise us of where they stand on that?

As we have some great Independent representatives they could maybe advise and guide us on their views. ;)

  7. I have a family history that stems from a community of Bedlington Miners who have always supported the Labour Party. I am however , not a fan of our MP Ian Lavery. I also do not know a miner who supports him. I do respect him if he has registered as a Dementia Friend and if it was not a publicity stunt then I applaud him.

  8. If you check the likes of TripAdvisor you will no doubt come across the best things to do in Bedlington however who in the town would agree with their suggestions.

Perhaps we can suggest things that we should preserve for the town. i.e.

    1. Bedlington History Society

    2. Bedlington Community Centre

    3. Bedlington Social Club

    4. Bedlington.Co.UK

    5. Bedlington Library

It would be great to see the people of Bedlington support Scott & Kay in their efforts to raise £2,000 to help support Charlotte-Rose through her treatment.

Charlotte-Rose 'rang the bell recently' so thanks to all who supported her through her treatment.☺️
