  1. I think it might have something to do with the steelworks because before Millbank place Knox road it would have been direct access to the woods & iron works hence the word mill bank but that’s just an outrageous guess

  2. Your right as my grandma & grandpa moved in there from brand new at Millbank from Hirst terrace unfortunately he was killed at the Dr Pit in April 1949 so spent very little time there shame really

Actually Haig  Road was named named after General Haig who served in the 1st w/w the poppy appeal bears he’s name & Admiral Beatty was in charge of the fleet in the Battle of Jutland also 1st W/W General Haig is buried at Melrose Abbey.on the Scottish Borders. Milbank place was built in 1950s my mum & Dad was of the first tenants I was doing a topic on Millbank place but never got round to finishing it yet but Millbank terrace & crescent was built much earlier

    welcome to the forum I remember a year or 2 ago there was a video showing images of the village think from 60s or early 70s I’m sure canny lass or Alan Edgar can point you in the right direction it showed people getting of a bus which ran from grange park bedlington station to netherton colliery every hour if I can remember right the firm was called Raisbecks I believe

  5.  Hi symptoms 

    hope your keeping well actually the Vizslas is my missus favourite dog lots of them about in the countryside people use them for hunting. Mostly for bird carrying but there mostly very affectionate towards children. But my missus like town photos but thanks for your advice

Cheers Alan my missus would probably like a magnet off the town rather than the dog she likes to look at places she has been she’s Hungarian I took her to bedlington to see family & she thought it was a nice place but then we stopped in a nice hotel in alwinton as she wanted to see where I was born which was rothbury my great grandfather & he’s relations were from Bellingham my middle name is Charlton which I’ve gone back as far of lots of Charltons from there apparently Reiver name

    wonder if anyone can help me & the missus are coming to the uk early new year she saves fridge magnets is there anywhere in Bedlington you can get them apparently she said it must have bedlington on it not Northumberland Whitley Bay etc thanks for your help & advise haven’t had time to be on the website as moving to a place called Lenti which is a town near the borders of Slovenia & Austria the house is in the process of renovation electric windows door central heating basically everything but getting there now the nearest city is probably Graz but still in Budapest at the moment 

  8. I find it strange how life is my son was brought up in Hertfordshire he’s in the British army waiting for he’s order probably Poland he serves in the royal tank regiment & one of he’s best friends whose in the same regiment is from Bedlngton

Just passed Budapest main train station today lots of Ukrainian refugees there some were waiting for trains to Prague & Vienna and lots of Indian students who apparently are going to the airport & flying back to India the people look very bewildered & everyone who is shopping is getting extra & given stuff to the Ukrainians food water etc some are even given toys to the small ones so sad to see this infact shocking & sick

  10. Hi HPW I've still got half the street to do,will finish it next week yeah the Wilkinsons & the Leylands lived in millbank promise to finish it next week. I have no time this weekend as my Mate from London is coming to Budapest for a visit nice to here from you again
