  1. From the album: Westridge School - End of term class photos

Photo from David Dobson who commented :- The cast of She Stoops to Conquer taking their curtain call at Westridge in 1963. Westridge had a reputation for putting on at least one good play per year largely due to the enthusiasm of English teacher Mrs. Wray or "Ganny Wray" as she was better known. Names from - David Dobson - Alan Scott - Ernie Armstrong and Florence Palmer.
  2. From the album: Bedlington Grammar School

Photo from Susan James - Facebook Bygone Bedlington group - majority of names from Brenda Millar & All Pattison
  3. Date of photo updated to October 1951 following Ovalteeny's research at the Woodhorn Colliery Archives - the photo was found whilst looking through some old copies of The Blyth News/Ashington Post and he came across this very same photo. It was in an edition from late 1955 but it stated that it was a retrospective photo from October 1951.
  4. Too technical for me - just checked and the upload photo is back to 34 x 25.5 - I'll ask the wife, or perhaps 3g can deviate from the original topic and explain this
  5. Couldn't prove it Steve, but if you take a copy or check the original, your photo is H34" x W25.5" so the system might have turned it 90 degrees to fit. Made him back into a small dog = H6.0 x W4.5 However first attempt even though I had downloaded the large image; shrunk it to 6x4.5, saved it the uploaded the new file, using 'png' format this system created the file portrait but back to 34 x 25.5. Saved the downloaded file in 'jpg' format - deleted, via edit, the uploaded png file and selected the jpg file for uploading - this time file size has still altered but only to 7" x 5" (approx).
  6. ‎From John Burn‎ Admin on the Cambois Facebook group site Saturday, April 21st will be 50 years since the closure of Cambois Pit. As a means to celebrate, some of the very pitmen who worked there are organizing a night at Cambois Club and they hope that any miners who worked at the pit can join them, as are any descendants. My dad tells me that at the 25th anniversary, back in 1983 - people came as far as from the West Midlands to join in and see old faces. Obviously since that time, many pitmen have passed on. But it will be great to remember them. Please feel free to share this message as far and wide as possible.

  8. From the album: West End Junior school - Ridge Terrace

  9. From the album: Local Football 2

The team was first thought to be a Bedlington Mechanics team but from the names that had been identified in Facebook and some research in old newspapers Ovalteeny commented :- From team sheets I've seen in old copies of the Morpeth Herald I would say that this is West Sleekburn Welfare FC.
  10. Through Ovalteeny's research and the memory of John Reed ( @Reedy's dad) some more names - plus this team is not a Mechanics team and now - Ovalteeny says :- ' From team sheets I've seen in old copies of the Morpeth Herald I would say that this is West Sleekburn Welfare FC.
  11. Some names added by No 5 Mel Douglas on the Facebook Bedlington remembered group site.

  14. No positive proof Ovaleeny - I posted your full comment on the Bedlington Cricket Club site :- https://www.facebook.com/bedlingtoncricketclub/?fref=nf and one response from - Mal Jovi Hemsted - was :- My dad says this is the lowest he’s heard of Mal's dad is Susan Hemsted's cousin Billy who is about our age and been involved with BCC all his life. Billy's dad Billy, along with many more of the Hemsted family, as you know have been involved with the club for donkeys years.
  15. Updates, from No 29 Anne & No 20 Denise, for Nos 25, 27, 28, 38, 39, 40 & 43
  16. @Rigger - one of the Barnton Admin team - Alan Dickson (in his early 70's) - that knows the area very well replied to the question I put to Geoff on the site :- Alan DicksonGroup admin That stood in the dip just after Sunniside gannin to Bedlington Geoff, But on the left side of the road, next to the Netherton wagon way which bi-sected the road. Think it was used at one time for the Barnt,n pit office.
  17. @Rigger - checked on the Barrington, Barnt' n memories and stuff!! Facebook site to see if there was any mention of Sunnyside Cottages that I believed was next to the Willow Bridge area and the people from Barrington often linked that area with Barrinton. This photo was on the site but the person that posted it says he can't remember where he got it from - I don't believe him! When I saw the photo (and it looked as though it was a book page) I recognised it from Evan Martin's book - Images of England Bedlingtonshire - Page 46 :- copy from the book with a bit of info :-
  18. Can't help with a Bell's Yard - there is still Bells Place down Front Street east - the old maps back to 1865 also show it as Bells Place - there is an archway but have no idea if it was ever known locally as Bell's yard
  19. Correction from No 4 - should be Alison Gray.
  20. Now 3 - I'm singing and dancing in the rain Doobe Do Do, Doobe Doobe Do Do, what a glorious feeling I'm happy again, just singing and dancing, in the rain, Doobe Do Do, Doobe Doobe Do Do
