  1. @Lee Foster- another member, on the Facebook Bygone Bedlington group has said they currently live in Pioneer Terrace and the deeds show it as having been called Wingrove House. I have asked this member how much further info, if any, they want to disclose and I am waiting for a reply.
  2. @Lee Foster - aerial view showing Pioneer Terace, Bedlington Station and the Ha'penny woods where Rose Cottage was :-
  3. That is correct Lee - Bedlingtons railway station was built and opened in Sleekburn in 1850. So Bedlington residents had to travel the 1.5 - 2.0 miles to Bedlingtons station and eventually (I don't know when) the area became know as Bedlington Station.
  4. Don't know of any where local but I do remember there was an elderly lady that suffered with MS, and I think it was Carlisle, that made the news because her landlord was going to evict her for using drugs on his premises. I think I have the gist of the story correct in that this lady, to relieve her pain, discomfort and other MS related neurological symptoms she used to meet up with others in a similar situation and eat cake that had been made with an amount of cannabis in the mixture. I can't find that particular news story, from many years ago, online but did find this one from 2001 :- http://www.cwherald.com/a/archive/coffee-cakes-and-cannabis-in-cumbria.259504.html
  5. Names from Dale Foster added = Nos 6,7 & 14
  6. @Lee Foster - I asked on the Bygone Bedlington Facebook group if anyone had ever know a Wingrove House. One member replied - I live in Wingrove House - and I thought that's it now get some info. Turns out this member lives in Wingove House, Newcastle, not Bedlington. Then another member commented :- 'According to the census, Wingrove House was 28 Pioneer Terrace.' . This has lead to an online discussion with extracts from old maps and books been checked but nothing definite established. I do not have access to the the census info but I will post on this group all that gets posted on the Facebook group when the online discussion ends. Might take a couple of days
  7. Google satellite image showing the location of the Doctor Pit Welfare Park - now called Dr Pit Park.
  8. When the photo was posted on Facebook - @Ovalteeny posted this comment and image :- Jack Kidd Looking at the attachment below, which is taken from the information I have gathered from local newspapers, this team line-up never played together for any one club, in any one season. My conclusion is therefore it is a scratch side, most probably to participate in the annual Good Friday “Top Club” versus “Bottom Club” fixture. It would be brilliant if someone could confirm the year the photo was taken. In the 1940’s and 1950’s players could sign for more than one club, provided those clubs were in different leagues. Some of the men who played in the higher class of football (i.e Northern Alliance) were regarded as almost semi-pro as they received match expenses. So, they were prone to moving around, especially if the clubs made it worth their while. I still have a lot more research to do with local football from this era, my data is certainly incomplete, but I have enough information on all the teams in Bedlingtonshire to be able to make a calculated stab and say that this a scratch side, gathered together for some sort of friendly.
  9. Photo from Hellen Millar - Facebook group Bygone Bedlington. Not sure where this 1950's team played but the most reckon it would have been the Dr Pit Welfare ground as this team was mainly made up of mates from the Dr Pitt. The Matty Hall in the photo is the farther of Matty Hall the Whitley memorial school teacher.
