  1. The BBC session one Christmas is good. There is a good song called the Mistletoe Bough which I have not heard on any cd. We have tickets to see Clannad soon, guess that will be the exact opposite of Bellowhead. No one will be up and dancing.
  2. Bellowhead! Their cd Broadside starts with Byker Hill. Second track is the Old Dun Cow! Worth a listen. If you get the chance go and see them live.
  3. If we had some evidence of the Old Iron Works like the Bessemer Converter,we may have got more people taking notice of the contribution Bedlington made to the birth of the Railways. I read somewhere that Barry Mead was doing a talk in Newcastle last night about Bedlington's contribution to the Railways. A Crucible seems small by comparison. We lost out when the Iron Works closed but we do have a lovely river valley
  4. Seems The City Hall has been saved. The City Hall is as much part of the Toon as Saint James' Park!
  5. This is what they needed at the Iron Works
  6. Saw this and thought of you
  7. It really was a terrible war. I do not think there is a good war, innocent people die. Even if the cause is good and necessary. I was shocked at the numbers drafted from Millbank Crescent alone. Truly the Pals War. United in War, Death and Injury. Then home to people only interested in the price of bread! So many many thoughts must have been difficult. Bedlington and security to carnage. Long may we live in peace.
  8. Very interesting James. I think the farm opposite the new Broadway house farm was owned or run by the Grey's. I know the new farm house had no electric. Wired up but not connected. Now people worry about Electro Magnetic Fields maybe then it was electric that was dangerous.
  9. Was this the same place as Puddlers Row. Spoaching again.
  10. I wonder if there was a source of water that earned the name Fountain.
  11. No sorry, they have only become Terriers by association.
  12. Ian de Montfort is unbelievable on radio 2 Thursday 9.30, last weeks on I player. Guess from his accent he is from further south, still NE. Very funny we think. He really is Tom Binns. Also recommend the music of 'I am Kloot' band member Peter Jobson went to school in Morpeth. Most people will have heard of Ross Noble from Cramlington. If you have not check him out. As I have put things in the wrong forum I felt the need to raise the profile of anyone from the NE.
  13. In the 80s she was at Woodhorn allowing kids or anyone to try and play her pipes. Some terrible noises could be heard.(not from her) She now helps young people become involved in the Folk Music Tradition.
  14. Talk propa? Hadaway This is an article that appeared in yesterday's Guardian page 36 David Almond says as an introduction Am a Rita, and A kno the common langwij cums from the hart an sole, and must Neva be forgot He is a novelist and professor of creative language at Bath Spa University.

  16. This lot need to be in the Heritage initiative! Spoaching again
  17. It was.my grandad who came home suffering not Harry Patch.
  18. My Grandfather was drafted into the army in 1916. Lots of people in the same street went at the same time. Harry Patch, the last Tommy said, 'War is licensed murder' He came home suffering from the effects of mustard gas. Maybe others have local stories of War and the consequences
  19. You seem like a daily mail reader to me Keith. I expect you to have the last word but I really do not see your logic and never will. Best wishes
  20. 'Amen' thank 'GOD' Keith you have seen the reason for protest with unforeseen consequences.
  21. To jump in front of a bus because they have changed the route is crazy. (My opinion) If you think that equates with Emily's actions, and those are your sincerely held views that is fine. We live in a democracy where you are free to say and think what you like. Emily was fighting for that right.
  22. Yet another business idea. It could win us Britain in Bloom. Coloured lawns
  23. Should I mention hot air. New source of power!
  24. Malcolm you need to be in parliament. Malcolm Robinson MP
