  1. Happy birthday, Foxy. Sorry it's late - new job has got me all over.
  2. Was on top of The Lady yesterday - ooh no missus, titter ye not - incredible views and I was amazed at the extent of the opencast works behind it. But I still can't make sense out of it's layout - baffles me, that. But I was more impressed by the wildlife - damsel flies (tons) butterflies (even more) and a lovely cheese & tomato toastie at the cafe.
  3. Cheers, Alison, I never knew that.
  4. If I'm not mistaken the same thing happened in the 80's (?) with glue-sniffing. No one would have dreamt of it until one of the daily papers (probably the Sun) ran an article on the new craze. Then tons of kids were doing it. PS, Where did you get the photo of my house from?
  5. Foxy, was there a regular side-car event at the top of the Hair-pin bend in the 60's - 70's? (I'm sure this was touched on elsewhere on-site but can't remember where.)
  6. Now if I had my conspiracy head on I would think the journalist might heve been deliberately hampered in the investigations in some way. But you're right about minimalistic journalism. I'm hoping they are going to follow it up with more details. I just thought it was interesting. Funny enough, in the 80s I thought the Independent was the only decent paper around.
  7. INTERESTING! http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/oil-rig-worker-fired-after-claiming-to-have-seen-burning-mh370-plane-crash-9508187.html
  8. It's like Bedlington town, Eggy, vanishing without a trace, might as well have a sinking ship sale!!
  9. It can't be the same ship, not by those dates, and it certainly can't be if it was lost in 1854. The photograph doesn't look as if it has a shallow draft, either.
  10. Sorry, Malcolm, can't see anything for those two drunks staggering out of the bar.
  11. I thought this was quite interesting, too, Threegee. http://www.friendsofscience.org/index.php?id=3
  12. All the best, Adam, have a great birthday.
  13. That's the one, Eggy, but it looks all larty-da-posh now!! WHY!!!!! - It's just a little dirt road!!!! It makes no ru**y sense to put a new kerb there!!!
  14. One of the biggest problems I've EVER come across is transport costs. Be it for work, job interviews, education (ie evening classes to get further qualifications), or going out of town to buy things that you can't obtain locally - like SHOES, etc. It costs £26.50 for a weekly pass on Arriva - £5.70 for a two-zone all day ticket (Bedlington-Blyth) and if you are on JSA that is a lot of money out of your dole if you have to do it on a regular basis. And I can't see prices coming down or any concessions being made. END OF RANT!!
  15. Yeah, Eggy, I know that, but they were doing work there yesterday and it looked like they were putting a kerb in front of the dirt road - which made me think they were closing it off. I passed again tonight and the kerb is small and tarmacked (?). It doesn't make sense to me - what they have done - it just means any cars that go down there now have a kerb to negotiate!!! Cheers anyway.
  16. Walked passed the Cricket Club opening tonight - at Hirst Head - and saw a kerb had been 'erected' where the entrance is. One assumes the Cricket Club is no longer in use now - or there is another entrance for vehicles. Can someone enlighten me.
  17. I read I know why the caged bird sings as part of my 'A' level English Lit' and was knocked over sideways by it. The writing was so vivid and fresh. It was a joy to read. RIP Maya.
  18. How could I have missed the obvious one - Global Warming. I wonder how many people and 'green' companies became rich on the back of that nice little scam of an earner.
  19. I hope you're right, Mister Fox, because my bro has just rushed to William Hills with next weeks rent. (Just kidding)
  20. Now you know why I got rid of the goggle box three years ago. The media has / have been manipulated by the government from the day the word propaganda was coined. It is mind-blowing how one country sees one event whilst another country sees it in another light. The media tells you what it wants you to believe. There are very few cases, I believe, where a journalist or reporter, can tell you the story the way it happens. If you don't believe me or you believe this as a lunatic rant, then recall the missing Malaysian airplane. It literally disappeared of the news bulletins. The public are fast becoming sheeple, not people.
  21. How's that saying go...."Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
  22. MORE FROM THE MAN - viewer discretion for language. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7eDnIlfbHU
  23. If I saw someone fall down I would help; If I saw someone lying on the ground I would phone the authorities. To me that is common sense and decency. But we live in a society where a majority of people look after themselves and it's easier to draw the curtains and shut the world out or pretend they didnt see it. In the long run you've got to thing "What if it was me or a loved one that fell down?"
