  1. Update on cake club - It's going well and we now have 25 members who come and go with an average of 8-10 at each event. Here's the link to the latest write up http://clandestinecakeclub.co.uk/2012/09/07/local-cakes-for-local-people-at-the-old-country-barn-widdrington-morpeth-18th-august-2012/ I'm please to say that Jackie at Tinos deli is now interested in getting involved! I still have a little bit of PR work to do and desperately need to do that walk in to the bedlington business'. I'm just so busy, but I'm om holiday shortly so it'll be then. Hope everyone is well.
  2. Have you got a twitter account? I have tweeted about your fundraising efforts and asked for re tweets. If there's anything I can help with let me know!
  3. I have to say this hasn't been publicised very well.....where were the posters in the area? I would've happily come along as I am keen to meet people in the community and I can't get on here or listen to synergy every day because of work commitments. Hope you got a good turn out though

  6. I was born in 1977 and I can relate to a lot of this too, Malcolm. The most disappointing thing I have had the misfortune to be involved in recently, in relation to the way kids are 'brought up' today was a mother complaining at my nieces birthday party. I was in charge of the music during passy the parcel and she complained that her child hadn't had a 'chance' to have a go. Apparently even though there was 50 kids in the circle I wasn't giving each a fair go. I don't think my sister wrapped it 50 times, like! Life is full of disappointments, you can't always win and need to accept this gracefully. Children need to learn this too, as well as good manners (which seem to have gone out of fashion) and learning that you can't always get your own way. My other half received a swiss army knife for his 5th birthday and a soldering iron for his 9th. We want to encourage our kids, when we have them, to take a calculated risk. If they succeed the sense of achievement, freedom and the confidence boost will be massive, if they get hurt then they'll have learnt a lesson. I'd like to think that they too will ride their go karts down a hill. We'll bring them up to have manners, to say sorry, to be kind to people, to do as they're told or there will be consequences such as stopped pocket money. Sadly these things don't happen a lot today my nieces and nephew are either frightened of their own shadow or have a blatant disregard for what their parents tell them, almost 100% of the time.
  7. I also don't find it acceptable to listen to swearing but I also don't comment.....for fear of further abuse. Some people on here have suggested that I use some of the pubs in Bedlington for my cake club and I have considered this, but after reading this post I'm not so sure. I don't want my members to be subjected to swearing. I have witnessed the people standing outside of the grapes swearing and also a lad who, I now know drinks in there regularly, boasting about his drug addiction on the bus. Of course, if it ever becomes popular to swear and snort a line of coke, in full view, at afternoon tea in the ritz then it'll all be fine
  8. Hi all, Thank you for all of your support. I am certainly going to do I 'walk in' to some of the business' in Bedlington in the coming weeks to discuss the club with the managers and owners if present. You're right Malcom, I literally need a little space to have some food or drinks followed by our cake. I have already asked Tino's deli and Jackie declined. They were the first people I asked and as the events run in the evenings (due to work commitments for me and the members), Jackie felt it wasn't worth opening up for the especially for the club. The first meet is at the community centre.....I can talk about this now because it has been revealed to the members. I'll post the photies and write up on here in the hope of getting more Bedlington business' involved. Diane

  12. Well! I'm a bit disappointed in Bedlington at the minute. I've sent out invites to all of the pubs and restaurants in Bedlington for venues for the CCC and no one has got back to me! Morpeth and Stakeford are jumping at the chance! Cmon' Bedlington, keep the business local.....this is meant to be about communities and helping local revenue, not giving all of our business to neighbouring towns! I may have to end up changing the name to Morpeth CCC at this rate!
