  1. No doubt you will have read in the national press that Gordon Brown our late 'lamented PM' is looking to become the boss of the International Monetary Fund. All I can say about that is 'Oh My God'
  2. The price of a first class stamp is to go up to 46p (that's almost ten bob) in old money - little wonder that the volume of letters posted is decreasing year by year -I think it's a case of the Law of Diminishing Returns - the more the price goes up the less stamps they sell. I know for one thing, I WILL NOT be posting my Xmas Cards this year!

Has anyone been to Sebastian's in the Milfield yet - if so, would you care to share your experience on the food/ambience?
  4. and to quote words from that well know ditty "MY GOD WHAT A STATE WE ARE IN"
  5. Does anyone know who is responsible for the upkeep of the trees on either side of Bedlington Bank. My concern is that in periods of high winds it is quite possible for a tree to be blown down and onto passing traffic. I must say that driving up and down the bank daily I cannot help but notice that some of the trees look in a precarious state!
  6. Will Spain be next? - almost certainly if the proposed disruption to air travel goes ahead and I for one will never forgive them - so many holidays ruined over the years, the last one you may remember just before Christmas last year - this one resulted in a 5 hour delay getting back from Tenerife.

Looks as though it's going to be called Sebastians Italian Ristorante and it opens on the 1st April. Looking forward to visiting.
  8. Did anyone see the Mail today - photographs of Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice emerging from a Soho night club in the early hour looking completely sozzled. Thats bad enough for people in their priveledged position but what really gets up my nose is that we the tax payer are footing the immense bill for their close protection. About time this nonsense had to stop - protecting our Queen is one thing but the young royals - no way.
  9. Any readers have any photographs of what Bedlington was like during the Second World War ? If so could you publish them on the Community Forum.

and us too, my good lady and I are always on the lookout for nice places to eat. Any idea what type of food they intend serving in the restuarant i.e. Fusion, Italian etc or just good old english!

Very pleased to hear that - look forward to having another place to eat in Bedlington. Incidentally anyone remember Borgias?
  12. I thought that some time ago it had been decided to restrict parking in Front Street East in order to allow safe and unimpeded vehicular traffic up and down the street. The currently allowed parking i.e on both sides of the street is at times diabolical and how may of us have almost (or even had) wing mirrors swiped off by passing vehicles. I know that a lot of the shop keepers prefer to park outside their doors for convenience but what is stopping them using the large car park behind Tesco. Come on council, get your fingers out and get this parking problem sorted.
  13. Best of luck to you and I hope your business does well. I pass your shop fairly regularly and will make a point of calling in for a sarnie one of these days.
  14. There's plenty of latent talent up here in Geordieland -we just don't brag about it! and having seen some of the rubbish acts on Britains Got Talent I think it's probably better we dont get involved.
  15. She may well be one of the 'better' ones - my own experience of some of the others is somewhat different. When Air Miles Andy was doing his Naval Flying Training at RAF Linton on Ouse all those years ago he was something of a pain in the a*** - the 'don't you know who I am' type. Look at the man now as our so called Overseas Trade Ambassador continuing to live off the fat of the land (and us). God help us all.
  16. Well, just how many of us will be looking to flee the country in order to miss the latest pantomime. I suggested this to my good lady who politely suggested that I should take myself off and let others enjoy the spectacle. I used to be a Monarchist at one time but see myself slowly going down the Republican route - I've been put off Royalty thanks to the ever increasing number of and the antics of the minor royals.
  17. Fabulous film clips - could watch this type of film all day!

    Xmas No 1

    X-Factor! - what a load of rubbish.
  19. Has anyone been in the Red Lion lately - what with the awful weather and a stint abroad soaking up the sun I haven't been in for a couple of weeks or so. Just wondering if the place has settled down now and if those members of the public who were so insistent on causing trouble have now crept back to their normal watering holes
  20. ...and the pub is so close to the Police Command Headquarters - where are the bobbies and the CCTV - no wonder these mindless morons are never caught. Quite frankly I think the perpetrators whoever they may be should be birched! You might gather that I feel very strongly about my little town and I just cannot stand people like this who take some warped pleasure in carryimg out acts of vandalism. If anyone know who they are then please shop them!
  21. Is anyone really interested in who? - but if we have to have somebody, what's the name of the guy who opened Spoons?
  22. Well thank God for that - we should all sleep easier tonight!
  23. Thanks Cympil - I've been doing a bit more research myself on Netherton Colliery and have located a book which has another good aerial photograph of Netherton together with some interesting photographs of Ashington and North Seaton. The book if you are interested is 'NORTH EAST HISTORY FROM THE AIR' by Norman McCord and was published in 1991.
  24. Mercuryg you appear to be very well informed about NK - just where do you get your facts from seeing that very little info comes out of the country. I still contend that they could be a force to be reckoned with - manpower alone, the hordes could sweep over the border and I doubt we could stop them - there's millions and millions of them!!
  25. perhaps idiots with a nuclear capability - scares the pants off me!
