A gay jogging through the park got his eye on a drunken tramp lying on the park bench.
He went to see if he was OK and discovered he was just about unconcious with the drink so he turned him over and had his way with him.
Feeling guilty he stuck a £10 note in the tramps top pocket.
When the tramp come round in the morning he found the tenner and was off to his local off licence, Cider again is it Tom? asked the shopkeeper
No I"ve come into money, I think I"ll try a nice bottle of wine today.
That night he just got settled, sound asleep on his bench when the jogger came through again, he couldn"t beleive his luck.
So, same again turned him over had his way and feeling guilty stuck a tenner in the tramps pocket.
When the tramp woke up in the morning he found the money couldn"t beleive his luck and it was off to the off licence again.
Wine again is it Tom?
No said the tramp,I think I"ll go back to the cider. That wines got my !*!@# red raw!!!!

Much has been said lately of the big supermarkets expanding in Bedlington.
When I was a kid there was small shops all over, Barnes for example was on our road up at Netherton Lane.
Does anyone know what shop was on Millbank Rd as I used to visit it many years ago when visiting my Granny?
Arthur Smith had that shop quite a few years ago and then John Frazer after that but not sure how long ago your talking about.

i neither agree nor disagree with the statement referred too.
Frankly, no, i cannot.
I found it funny tho!
Looks like your little joke about Where the !*!@# that has been missed but I liked it

Dignified?
Charles came to Bedlington a few years back wearing a very controversial "Fox-Fur" hat.
Back in Balmoral, he was watching the news coverage with his mother, when she saw what he was wearing.
"Whatever possessed One to wear such a Monstrosity Charles?" asked his mother
"Why is was You Mother!"
"One? One advised you to wear such a ridiculous hat?"
"Of Course" Charlie replied... "Last week when i told you i was Visiting Bedlington... don't you remember?"
"Not at all, One would never do such a thing. When did One suggest that?"
"You Did Mother... When i said where i was going, i asked you what to wear, and i distinctly remember you saying 'Bedlington??!?!!? Wear the Fox Hat!!!??!?' "
It was'nt my hat........

Well I love the royal family and can't wait ti see the wedding and will be going to see them if they come to Toronto after they are married like I saw Prince Charles and Lady Diana in the early 80's.
Was that before or after Carling ,Hewitt etc.

Is it the Millfield? Or Connexions
OK here's another blast, can anybody remember the resident band at the Top Club called Page Five? If so who were they and where are they now? I think maybe Cympil can help here.

Well, just how many of us will be looking to flee the country in order to miss the latest pantomime. I suggested this to my good lady who politely suggested that I should take myself off and let others enjoy the spectacle. I used to be a Monarchist at one time but see myself slowly going down the Republican route - I've been put off Royalty thanks to the ever increasing number of and the antics of the minor royals.
I must admit that when the new government said they would be clamping down on the benefit cheats, they were refering to the royals.Obviously not when we are having to pay for a lavish wedding that we cannot afford!

I believe the County gave planning permission to all Tesco's bids.
The staff in Greggs have been told Tesco has bought Elliots Garage, have you heard anything Malcolm?

Hmm foxy, it was a pretty dull place when Tudor had it!
I think the fact that he could'nt raise a smile had a lot to do with it.Certainly no happy hours.

That was quick!
It is indeed the Millfield
Taken in 1975.
Maybe you`ll know who had the place then? I heard it was Tom Hennessey but i`m not sure on this
Not sure myself but ex Newcastle footballer John Tudor had it at one time but it never took off because he got rid of the darts and pool teams, as he wanted a different clientele in there

Ok, here`s another blast from the past! Where is this building and by what name was it known? Rep for the winner
Is it the Millfield? Or Connexions

Well 3 weeks and its replaced. In fact there were 2 out and both have been done. There are panes out of shelters here which have been left for YEARS!!!!!! Don't even need to comment!
Still say we need rid of the pain in charge of the council but thats probably going to be years as well.

No accusations; came from a very well informed source...
It was always inevitable; any new place opening will experience the same. When you put the toilets with doors out of the view of the bar staff you're offering an invitation.
Starting at the Ridge Farm and working your way down the street, there are nine pubs/clubs where the bar staff cannot see the toilet doors. I think you've made your point and I've made mine. Let's just leave it at that.
-
Of course we haven't all got the same taste; your preference for the bar at which the local drug dealers have chosen to do their business - nicely tucked away upstairs and out of sight - is your prerogative! I prefer a pub where I know the regulars!
I wouldn't know a drug dealer if I saw one,In your pub or mine, but if I did I would be wary about making accusations.
-
I have to agree with supporting the local shops and think Tesco is a blight on the town. Odd, though, how people are not so quick to support the local pubs and seem eager to flock to the new mighty all powerful superstore of pubs that has opened at the top of the street.....
Perhaps we hav'nt all got the same taste,I could name one local pub that smells like a public toilet and another where Breathing Apparatus is a must!I would'nt tar them all with the same brush, the Tavern and Blue Bell are very nice but at the moment I'll stick with the superstore pub at the top of the street.

Shopping locally has its pro's and cons! we shop locally whenever we can afford too! (we tend to get gouged as they don't have any competition!) my wife remembers Pop and his sister Edie Clouson very well, Edie also ran a small shop.
You can't beat the independent local butcher and baker etc for quality but it usually comes at a high cost as they don't have the volume purchasing abilities that the big companies have.
Now you've started something, I'm reminiscing, any body remember Jimmy Milnes, Smailes at the bottem end, Keenans at the top end or what about Reeds the cobblers. Am i in your age group Vic? Anybody got any photos?

There is a pane out in a Morpeth bus shelter, bottom of Stobhill Bank, lets see how long it takes to replace because the same shelters here just left at best with gaping holes in.
Malcolm.perhaps the best way to get our panes replaced in Bedlington is to get rid of the pain in charge the cooncil!

A ventriloquest in the local club says "ALL IRISHMEN ARE STUPID" a guy in the audience stands up and says I'm irish and I'm not stupid! The ventriloquest says "I'M SORRY SIR I DIDN'T MEAN TO OFFEND,IT'S ONLY PART OF MY ACT! the guy says "I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU I'M TALKING TO THAT LITTLE T**** ON YOUR KNEE!

The problem was there long before Wetherspoons, the parking at school drop off and pick up times is dangerous to say the least! The local police choose to ignore cars parked on zig zag lines,in bus stops and on pavements you just need to look outside the police station to confirm this.Apparantly there hands are tied until there is an accident.Give Wetherspoons a break its the best thng thats come to the town in years.
-
Whats happened to all the talk about Wetherspoons? It seems all the Doom and Gloomers have hibernated. Its like a breadth of fresh air for the town.Weve now got a bit of life at the top end to gaan alang with the chapel of rest!

Your daughter didn't get this man's name by any chance?
Sorry, he was a stand in for some absentee. She was told to ring back later for more "technical info"

They asked for council permission to demolish. It was granted on condition that rebuilding immediately follows! So either a care home or the ubiquitous block of flats!
As for the aesthetics, there was an old thread on this site with reference to what is being proposed there, and it isn't visually pleasing, in fact what was passed will dominate the street view.
My daughter who lives very close to Elliots garage phoned the council to ask what safety procedures would be in place while the asbestos was being removed, The man at the council said he wasn't sure but "just make sure you keep your windows shut on that day" Lets hope the weather does'nt pick up and we get a heatwave!
