  1. When will you be back on air John

    Pete.

We are going to get our heads together in the next week or so to decide a date & then apply to Ofcom.

As soon as we get a date confirmed the Bedders site will, as ever, be the first to get to know.

    Many thanks for your interest.

  2. We used to hold the axles in place with yarking great metal staples, that would eventually work themselves loose, making the big back wheels, small front wheels or both, separate entities from the chasis, careering the pilot off onto the gravelly road & certain pain.

When wooden boxes weren`t forthcoming I used to make a limited bogie. I suppose it was Citreon 2 CV class version. No box to sit in & limited luxuries- brakes.

Just a big main plank with smaller piece of wood at the rear to fix the big wheels on & a pivoting one at the front for the steering.

In the absence of rope I used to lay face down on my bogie & steer with my hands.

The number of times I got my fingers trapped in the intricate steering mechanism- piece of wood, held in place by 6 inch nut & bolt pivet.

    Ouch!

  4. The Sun Inn at Bedlington in Northumberland stands on the south side of Front Street West, between the Community Centre and Elliot's Garage, on the embankment overlooking the ancient cross in the Market Place.

This was to be the place where one of the most terrible tragedies took place in the County of Northumberland, in the afternoon of Tuesday April 15th 1913, when three people were murdered. The owner and licensee of the property at that time was Mr. James Wood Irons of Newcastle. Mr. Irons engaged as Manager on, January 27th, 1913, John Vickers Amos, also known by the patrons of the Inn as "Jocker.†Amos was eventually tried for the murders.

Amos was born in 1878, and married in 1899, he had three children at the time of the murders, the oldest being twelve years and the youngest three. He worked for a few years as a miner at Linton, in the county of Northumberland, a few miles from Bedlington. During October 1912 owing to ill health in the United States he returned to his native district where he was well known and highly respected, with between £300 and £400 in money he had saved whilst overseas.

He had been to America four times, and during the last seven years leading up to the murders he had worked in Alabama. During his time overseas he first worked as a miner, then as a foreman. The latter part of time he was in America, namely June and July 1912, where he was involved in two extensive explosions of coal gas below ground. The first one on June 20th, resulted in two men being killed and fourteen severely burned. Amos himself received burns going back into the scene of the explosion three times, rescuing two of the injured men. He was himself laid up for three weeks. The effects of the explosion and the injuries he received affected his health very badly. He suffered from severe pains in the head which affected his sleep, and made him very nervous

The second explosion about a month later killed eight men, and left many seriously burned, Amos himself was blown about fifteen yards but was not burned, he subsequently had to be carried out that day. The results on his health were the same as the first explosion but with added effects, as he suffered from memory loss. One night he was told he had slept in a field, although he did not recall the event..

The Sun Inn was completely refurbished and rebuilt a short while before these horrific murders, by the owner, James Wood Irons, who was also a commercial traveler. Irons, who resided at 48 Devonshire Terrace, Newcastle, employed Amos as his Manager on January 27th 1913. The terms of his employment were such that he was to receive thirty shillings a week, plus five per cent. Amos was to pay all the expenses for cleaning purposes. There was a deposit of £30 from Amos. The owner had a habit of visiting the premises on regular periods to see how the business was being run. On February 28th the owner visited the Inn and did a stock check with Amos. The invoices were then passed on to the stocktaker who made up the accounts. After the stock take was made out it was noticed that there was a shortage of £7.5s.6d. Sixteen days later on March 16th another stock take was carried out with a deficit of £21.11s.3d.

    I posted these last year:

  5. Flattered by your concern Sym, and be reassured that circumstances are now entirely different. For a start we are no longer dependant on the solvency of a small US hosting company, and have no less than three geo-diverse servers on line these days two of which are in the UK and wholly owned. It's no longer a one-man show, and in fact it's as many people who want to come on board and do something. The position of "editor-in-chief" is still open if you want the job? But, be warned, the pay is poor. :)

I'm very concious of the need to put things on a somewhat more formal basis, as so much that is Bedlington passes from pillar to post and sooner or later dies a death. That's not going to happen here even over my dead body! A community-run and civic resource it must always remain, far from the clutches of American megacorps, and - quite unlike our government - wholly democratic.

    Hear, hear threegee!

A community resource. Just like Bedlington`s very own radio station.

  6. I was actually reading a good article on binaural beats in a magazine which I found highly interesting. It was based around the ability which music has to take the mind, body and soul to another plane due to the frequencies delivered through music.

Some producers and music obviously subconsciously does this but I do believe that music has the ability to heal, generally related to the fact that we attach emotions and memories to music but I love having a proper headphone moment where you close your eyes and get lost in the music.

Try listening to Jeff Wayne`s `War of the Worlds all the way through. Mind boggling!

In fact I feel a new thread coming on...

  7. The leaflets you seen were for Synergy Physiotherapy Maggie not the radio station in this thread.

Synergy Physiotherapy is located further down Front Street East and I do believe that there is a new member on here from there.

See the news article that they posted --> http://www.bedlingto...nsion-easy-r162

Although audio therapy is something I do highly rely on :dj:

Yep Brett. Music is also very good for the soul too!

  8. Dear All.

Just to keep you up to speed:

    • After nearly five years of hard work The South Northumberland Radio Group CIC, under the station name Synergy, has officially applied to be considered for the Region 4 North East England Community Radio Licence.

    • Our application has been received & accepted by Ofcom.

    • If there is an eventual winner of the licence, they will have the right to broadcast for a period of at least five years.

    • An announcement should be made by the Autumn of this year.

    • Synergy is one of three applicants for the licence.

    Good luck to all involved!

    The SNRG Management Team.

  9. Nice one Keith, you should have been a tour guide operator. But you missed out the luxurious EMPTY flats known as White Elephant Combo that now stands where the Claggy mat once stood.

    Err Keith.

I`ll have you know they are luxurious, empty APARTMENTS. not flats. There is a difference you know!

I wouldn`t live any where near mere flats!! :dribble:

If half of them are sold (as the sign says) then 90% of the sold ones don`t own:

    • A car
    • Curtains
    • Blinds
    • Light bulbs
