  1. I've now been in my property 18 months and noticed in the newspost a couple of weeks ago that my little flat that i moved out of is now back on the market. Although i doubt they will get many takers as they have it on the market with AS Moons. However Moons still have my details and photo's in the window!!!! They have been told on numerous occasions that I had sold, yet the details are still there.

Good Luck to anyone who puts their property up with Moons.

  2. The thing is Claire some people have had a bollicking for clearing up themselves. They apparrently throw the snow to the wrong place, someone might "fall over it" and make a claim for injuries recieived.

As for all of those people on the dole, I am one of them. I am out of work through no fault of my own and claiming benefits for the first time in almost 40 years. I am far from proud of that fact and I am doing my utmost to find work. So as far as "earning my dole money" is concerned, I feel that all of the contributions I have paid over the years could be helping me through a [ hopefully short] but difficult time. What I do object to is being put into the same categorie as those who make a carreer out of signing on every week [and seem to do well out of it]

Totally agree Keith is should be the ones who've never had a job and play the system.

  3. How about those people on the dole who are nice and warm in their houses going out and clearing some of the snow for their money!

Or if everyone in their own street cleared outside their houses it would make things a bit better. Get some community spirit going.

  4. Claire,

I was there, too, yesterday afternoon and it was great. A lovely place, good food, decent beer, and of course it was busy - it was free! The staff (many of whom I know from other places) were, as you say, friendly and nice, just as they are in any other pub you can walk into in Bedlington, and this is half my point: I'm not singling you out, and nor am I disagreeing with you as I will - as I've always said - be having a pint in the Lion, but do you drink in pubs, in Bedlington, on a regular basis? If you honestly think that it's all 'binge drinkers' I doubt you do. No offence intended, but with a bar open all day, with cheap beer on offer, who do you think it is going to attract? It will be those same people who currently drink during the day, who will be there because they want the benefit of paying less for their beer. These people, as I've tried to point out, will not last long in there, as they are not what the establishment wants. Who, after they've sorted the wheaat from the chaff in the firct couple of weeks, replaces them when they all trundle back to the Grapes/Bell/Wharton as they find that Wetherspoons is not what they want? This is what i'm getting at - where is the trade?

I enjoyed my meal yesterday - very good it was and the place is beautifully done out - but how is it going to get enough trade to stay alive when others are struggling?

Yes I drink in Bedlington nearly every weekend. My reference to the binge drinks were to the last days of the Lion, we used to drink in there every weekend till the end when it was just full of kids looking to get served. Once the Lion closed they started to spill into the Sun where we used to drink but we moved to the Tavern because of them.

  5. I`ve just bought a PS3 which had a `move` included, but as it`s a Xmas present i haven`t even opened it, plus i haven`t a clue what it is even! It just seemed like a good deal, so i got it

I think the best way to get an idea of the best games for it, is to check Google for Ps3 move games and check the reviews out.

Not much help from me, but if you find a good game, mention it here because i need to buy a game or two for it :)

Thanks, the move is like a wii, if that is any help to you.

  6. I've been to spoons to day for dinner as I was one of the many that got free tickets to the pre-opening for a free meal and two free drinks. I was busy and well organised, just like many of the other spoons I've been to. The food was very good and a nice quick service. The staff were all nice and very friendly. This is just what Bedlington needs, somewhere for people to go without the binge drinkers, just to sit have a quiet chat with mates and some decent food if required. I for one will become a regular customer.

  7. Well ladies and gents... I guess time will tell after the crack the seal on Tuesday.

While we are all entitled to our views, I'd just like to make the observation that Wetherspoons is a VERY successful business and I am sure they have some very clever people who have spent a long time deliberating over this investment, which must have been significant.

They must be convinced the demographics work and they must be confident that the numbers stack up otherwise lets face it, I am sure there are 1000 other run down pubs across the land that they could have pumped their cash into.

I say good look to them and if the place ends up as a family type pub/ bar... so be it!

I for one will be sampling their grub and beer my earliest possible convenience!

Well said. They'll have my custom :)

  8. About a year ago driving back from the Metty with MrsVic we (or should I say she) had a sighting near Hartford Hall. Driving along she starts shouting 'There's a beast, theres a beast, in the field' so she then procedued to try and do a 180 (into on coming traffic) but then decided to drive on and find a safer place to turn. After turning around and getting back to where she saw 'the beast' she jumped out that car and went towards the woods. Turns out there was a man there walking his black labrador!

  9. They worse!

I wasn't complaining about the price, i was complaining about the £250 hike since last year, even though i now have more no-claims! how can they justify that?

Mine too, the quote was £300 dearer this year and i've not claimed.....I got my new one from CSIS and paid £400 less than my renewal quote!

  10. I think more people will visit Bedlington for some cheap drink at the weekend, and since Wetherspoons don`t have music on, i reckon those same people will head off down the street after a few pints. Hopefully, the rest of the pubs will get some extra business too. It would be nice to see Bedlington on the map again as a place to go at the weekend for a good pub crawl, just like the old days :D

Hopefully this will be the case :)

  11. Thanks for the replies. I did make a complaint but have yet to hear anything. Also I went to Wansbeck Homes to ask about the letter and after getting a contact to write to, to explain what I want to do as the house has not been local authority for 20 years now, have finally received persmission free of charge to build a porch.

  12. As some of you may know I recently moved house (after 2 years on the market). I bought an ex-local authority house and was informed by my solicitor that if I wanted any external work doing to the house (including fitting new windows) I would have to apply for something called a 'covenant' letter before you apply for planning permission (if required). After finding nothing on the Council Website I contact the planning department to be pointed in the right direction.....They informed me it would be £20 for them to answer my question!!!! One month later and £20 lighter I receive an email to tell me that to get a covenant letter I need to contact Wansbeck Homes and the charge for this will be £50.........£20 to tell me that the robbing ********! Am I the only stupid person in Bedlington that is actually following the rules? How many other ex-local authority owners have got ones of these letters? And why are they getting away with charing for information that should be readily available.
