  1. I have heard a few rumours about the place but nothing more than that. An Indian restaurant was mentioned and also a sainsburys local. As for it becoming a Toby carvery, was it not a Toby years ago anyway? Didn't think it would be allowed to be a mosque due to the fact that pork had been there?

  2. thanks everyone,

Eggy- I would rather learn to do it myself via you tube videos, than trust any advice from Bernicia. The amount of problems I had after they 'improved' my house was laughable!

Reedy- my other half knows Eddie well, so I might get him to have a word, even if it is just for advice.

Maggie- I would keep it if it was on the side of the house but it takes up half my garden, and is in such bad condition it is bordering on dangerous. So its the first thing to go when I get the chance. Even if I got someone to disconnect the leccy and water supply and take the roof off I would probably be able to pull the rest down myself. The wheelie bin once fell over in the high winds and knocked some of the bricks out of it, so that tells you how safe it is!

  3. Hi guys.

I am in the process of buying my house from bernicia and the first thing I plan on doing is having the old outhouse flattened. My house is the middle one of a terrace of 3, so my outhouse isnt attatched to the house in any way but stands alone in the middle of my garden. It has cold running water and electricity in it but just a basic feed from the main house.

Would any of you know a local company that would safely demolish it for me and remove the rubbish and the approximate cost of this?

    Thanks  :ball:

  4. As the old ariy house have been knocked down, around the oval = Coquetale Place, Fontburn Avenue etc. the old ootside building with wesh hoose;cree & netty will have been knocked down. Does anyone know if these buildings, like the houses were modernised/rebuilt, without the coal cree of course?

Eggy, they didnt bother to rebuild them after they pulled the houses down, but they did provide the tenents with wooden sheds for storage instead.

  5. Leek Pudding

    How to make leek pudding:

A typically English meal, probably dating from the 18th century. This dish was cooked in the time-honored way, boiled in a pot that no doubt contained the rest of the meal cooking in the same water. This would have included some sort of meat and other vegetables boiled in a string bag.

    Ingredients

    2 cups self raising flour

    1/2 cup suet

    a pinch of salt

    organic leeks

    cold water to mix

(see measure conversions for more information)

    Method

    - Put the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix together.

    - Add some of the water and make into a fairly stiff dough.

    - Take only the white parts of the leeks, clean them and cut into 1/2 inch lengths.

    - Roll out the pastry into a large oblong shape.

    - Put the leeks onto one half of the pastry and season with pepper and salt.

    - Bring the other half of the pastry over the top of the leeks.

    - Pinch all the edges together to seal the leeks in and then roll the whole lot up in a damp, floured cloth.

    - Put into a pan of boiling water and boil for about 3 hours.

I make these and they come out great if you cook them in a slow cooker all day. Just put it in a ceramic pudding basin and cover the top with greased foil tie string around it leaving room for the pud to expand at the top. put in slow cooker with 2 inches of water in the bottom. takes 4 hours or can be left longer, so you can switch on and go to work knowing it will be ready for you getting in.

  6. Well BigTessi, that really is a brainteaser,

If you would like to pop along to the next council meeting Im sure your councillors, as always, will answer any questions or concerns that you may have. They may even respond through this website as some of them use it on a regular basis. In the interim period, you could pop into Ladbrooks and see what odds they are giving on whether, or when the pile of debris that has been left there will be removed, now that everything with any monetary value has gone .By the way, I'm sure things will come to an early conclusion as this eyesore is in the centre of the Conservation Area.

Is this the same 'conservation area' as the church hall 2 doors down from there, as that has been dealt with so quickly and is not in any way an eyesore is it? :dribble:

  7. This has just been taken over by Tinos deli. The same people that have the little deli shop opposite the boulmersund club! they make all their own bread and I can highly reccommend them. I know that they grow a lot of the veg and stuff themselves in an allotment to so its always as fresh as you can get. x

  8. Can anyone shed some light on the work going on at the old elliots garage site? Someone told me that there is going to be a old folks home built there, then someone else told me that the planning permission for that fell through.

I have searched the council websites for info but they havent come up with much as yet.

If it is going to be a residential home, which company is it for? I can find the name of the building contractors but not the actual company who they are building it for ( if they are building anything at all!)

Any info would be very much appriciated.

  9. As I have noticed the shop at Boumersund mentioned in the 'ham sandwich' debate as being the best place for fresh bread, thought you all might like to know the same people - Tino and Jackie - have just opened Tinos deli on Bedlington front street and you can get the freshly made bread there. Directly opposite the 'church apartments' that are next to council offices. (used to be the hearing aid shop!)

  10. Just found this discussion and sad to say I am appalled at the lot of you! Mustard/apple sauce/pickle?????? Not once has anyone even mentioned the one thing that every Bedlington resident should be proud to put on a ham sarnie and that is good old Pease pud!

  11. My mother used to do a football size 'leek' pudding but the leeks were in the suet case and the middle had mince and onions. Cooked in a cloot but it took all day………..took us the full weekend to polish it off and even then the neighbour used to get some!

I find the best way to make them is in a slow cooker. Just cook them in a pudding basin, pyrex dish, or mixing bowl standing in water and let it steam all day. I make mine in the morning before i go to work and let it cook while I am out. Great to come home to after a long shift.

  12. Just wondered if any of you have stumbled across www.thevegboxcompany.co.uk yet. They are a fairly new company set up in Bedlington that delivers a selection of fruit , veg and eggs to your door on a regular basis. Its all in season stuff and is quite reasonable prices. I have not tried them myself yet due to the fact I couldn't be in when they deliver (saturdays) but the comments they are getting on facebook about their service is really good. If anyone has had stuff from them please let the rest of us know what they are like. thanks. x

  13. Recruitment open day on Tuesday 12th October, at St Bedes Church. Starts at 11:00 am. Good Luck.

Also heard a whisper that they are only recruiting people on 'New Deal' this cannot be right, can it?

I was one of the people that went to the recruitment day and was 1st turned away as 11am was for people with secured appointments only( not as advertised!) then went back at 1pm to be again turned away as I wasn't armed with a CV. I then went home, typed up a CV and went back again ( more nosiness than needing a job)I eventually got a mini-interveiw to be told that they are opening on 16th november. They asked if I would be ok starting work at 5AM!!! When I questioned this I was told that they are planning on opening for breakfasts at 7am every morning! Is it just me or this this a bit hopeful in their eyes! I can't imagine many people wanting a greasy spoon breakfast at that time of a morning! Maybe they will have more luck at 9am when the kids get dropped off at school but I can imagine this will just aggravate the west end parking problems! Seems to me that the solution to one problem may create the escalation of another?

I didn't get called back for a second interview but my less than enthusiastic attitude at the 5am starts may have been a big factor in that!

  14. My father in laws allotment is there. There are 2 or 3 allotments that are totally destroyed but it could have been a lot worse. I don't think anyone was hurt and they managed to get all animals out alive except 2 chickens that when released flew straight into the flames! It did take 4 fire engines to get it under control though.

  15. Hi Bill.

My Grandad lived at 20 haig road for years. His name was Harry Myerscough though most people knew him as Henna. He was married to Ginny.( at least I think thats what she was called, sadly I never knew her) My dad ( Joseph )was actually born in that house.

His other 2 sons were Robin and Kevin. he moved out around 1985/86 as far as I remember.

  16. They are mostly pulled down and rebuilt now. They are the same size as the prefabs as the kept the same foundations but I think the insides are a different design. Some of them have bay windows. They haven't been built brick by brick though. They brought whole walls on a lorry and seemed to just slot them into place! I didn't know you could get flat packed houses! Does this class them as a new breed of prefab I wonder? They look like normal brick houses with plaster on the top half which is painted yellow. I just hope they don't have any pink paint added later on like the houses next to wansbeck hospital. They look like giant battenburg cakes!:rolleyes:

  17. If your looking for a good daytime takeaway, Bizzy bees at the oval has a Fab reputation for quiche , sarnies and loads of other stuff. Went to a party a couple of weeks ago where they did the buffet and the quality was excellent. Its a bit out the way from the front street but if you are down stead lane way its definately worth a try.

  18. ps2 has all the parts to keep the disc secure even when in use an xbox 360 does not, this is because the engineers who designed had to compromise the disc drive design to make it fit in to the case. and the first one all ways over heated (rrod) causing the lead free solider to crack. new versions have been slightly modded with a bigger heat sink and flow control. :D

My sons Xbox 360 was upright then he got the dreaded three red lights on it. This is supposed to mean an internal problem that you have to get fixed by Microsoft by sending your xbox away. All I did was hoover all the vents and stuff on it and it worked fine again. It did ruin the game disc though!

I heard that if you lie it flat it should be on an empty cardboard box( similar to the box it came in) and that reduces the risk of it having problems. Don't know how true this is though!
