  1. Merlin, quite clearly you didnt understand my post. There was a massive pile of snow running down the middle of the golf course road which made it impossible to drive without being nose to tail with the car in front. As you say that road is single carraigeway, but as we all know it is very wide with ample opportunity for overtaking. That road is a major artery into the town and should have been cleared long before the thaw came and natural events happened. As I said, previously, ALL other roads we travelled on Friday/ Saturday last week were completely clear, including the country roads. Since New Year I have been travelling to Yorks/London/South East. I have friends and colleagues in Wales and Middle Earth (Merlin.... for your benefit thats the midlands) and all report snow clearance on main roads. And, lucky you!! Your bin was emptied. Mine wasn't. It was out waiting to be emptied but to no avail. I have, since my last post, discovered that it was emptied on Thursday (I was down south) but only because my husband saw the binmen and asked when it would be emptied. They told him to leave the bin out. I resent your inference to New Year alcahol and dreaming!! I pay REAL money (not housing benefits) in council tax and expect a REAL service.
  2. I disagree completely!! We went into the countryside last Friday. Everyone said 'dont go you'll never make it and get trapped somewhere'. Complete TOSH! All the roads were clear, including the little country roads! We drove back to Bedlington on Saturday on clear roads until we crossed Hartford Bridge. The road along the golf course only had one lane each way with a massive pile of snow running down the middle of the road. The main st wasn't much better! It appears we were last on the list!! And what about the dustbins. Our bin wont get emptied until next week. How many weeks is it since last done? Ashington and Blyth appear to have been done. Again last on the list it seems. I think the canny people of Bedlington are being 'taken a lend of' We deserve better!
  3. I completely agree with Blank I am tired of hearing people say ' whats the use reporting it to the police? they won't catch 'em/do anything' blah blah If everything gets reported it pushes up the stats for the area which in turn leads to more police officers assigned to us. They dont like unresolved crimes, it looks bad for them. A few years ago someone tried to hit my bank account and spend it gambling on the internet. When i tried to report it to the police they refused to accept the report stating 'there's no evidence the crime was committed in this area'. very caring!!! It seemed to me that they would only accept reports of crimes that they might have a small chance of resolving otherwise their reported crimes/resolved crimes stat goes up the swanny. All crimes should be reported otherwise we end up being fed worthless information that crime is actually falling! With a future general election looming watch out for the stats that say everything in the garden is rosy.........
  4. I've said for many years that we should have a statue of a Bedlington Terrier in the market place. We should exploit our heritage. I'm under the impression that the terrier was created, because of a bet in the old 'Gardeners Arms' pub down the street. Sadly the pub no longer exists. I've never noticed a plaque commemorating the event. Is there one there? Shouldn't there be a one?

    Snow?

At first I thought it was my eyes, then I thought my laptop had a virus, then i realised it must be you lot messing around. Are you trying to encourage the snow to come?
  10. So where are you meeting and interviewing people?
  11. I have been watching this thread develop. I dont profess to know everything, but i try to keep an open mind. I call myself Geordie because I was born within sight of the river Tyne. I call myself English because I was born in England. Also, British because I hold a British passport. My forbearers came from Scandinavia. Grandfather fought in first World War, father and mother in second. This country has been built on multiculturalism. It appears Nick Giffin and his followers are feeding on the nations fears. His sound bites are very persuasive and appeal to those who believe everything fed to them by the media. However, he clearly cannot reason his points successfully within an open forum. He had the opportunity on Thursday evening, but did not rise to the challenge. Perhaps he should be given the opportunity within a more reasonable environment? The programme was farcical and manipulative for everyone involved and the BBC showed itself to be inept at createing a reasonable forum for 'all voices'. When we get to the ballot box, people will, as usual, be voting for the party that most fulfills the thoughts and ideals we believe in. We MUST NOT be 'hooked' into believing that the BNP are capable of creating a stable multicultural society in Britain based upon the few sound bites that appeal to a large proportion of people. Apathy and sound bites could be the downfall of our society. Lets get real. The country is in a mess. Culturally, financially, politically and most other 'ly's' you can think of. We should remember lessons learnt in the past, and not allow ourselves to be sucked into believing the propaganda we are fed.

  15. I have found Npower completely useless. Over winter 2006/2007 they reckoned my electricity tripled. We couldnt understand it. We had not bought anything new that guzzled electricity or used any more than usual. We had to pay it. The result was that i now keep records of electric and gas consumption on monthly, sometimes even weekly basis. i can calculate how much energy we use weekly and i quote it to the power companies. Every six months they try to increase my direct debits enormously and i ring them and quote all of my usage to them. They dont have a leg to stand on now. They always end up agreeing with me and allowing me to pay the amount that i calculate. I agree i am doing their job for them, but I'd rather do that than have them take stupid amounts of money from me each month. I would like to change my suppliers (gas is with british gas) but I've heard so many bad stories Im too scared to take the jump. By the way, we in Europe appear to be bearing the brunt of the new fashion to conserve energy. Other parts of the world burn massive amounts of energy and at a much cheaper price!!! Charging us more for our energy shouldnt be the incentive to make us conserve energy.
