The other hidden scandal is the leisure/sports provision supposedly afforded by the Sporting Club Bedlington - it took me 6 months to be able to actually book a sports hall slot for badminton and in several months of playing there hasn't been a single other person using the indoor facilities - the look on the receptionists face when I turned up to a booking for the first time was all you needed to know!

Another FOI request I'm thinking about putting in is to find out what usage this "community facility" has had since opening... the ability to book resources is certainly well hidden.

It would be interesting to hear the reasoning why it took 6 months, was it scheduling, staffing, costs or just the booking system?

And not anther person! (you must win a lot of games! sorry!)

A posted monthly usage report would be nice and possibly encourage more use.

  8. I believe most people liked the old front street we once knew but if we look at the history of front streets we can see that it has changed and won’t return as we fondly remember them.

With the inventing of the steam engine (partly thanks to Bedlington) produce from all over the country and later the world became more available for local sales and hence the front street grew as we knew it.

Then along came large box stores like Woolco (yes I helped build them!) and as people became more mobile one stop shopping became the latest (cheapest and convenient ) way of shopping.

I see the front streets still having a few essential fresh foods (smell that bakery!) or personal services etc but not all of the shops we had, I see more leisure, parks, recreational and meeting areas, but the pandemic situation may dictate otherwise.

The front street brought people out of their homes and together, electronics and technology is putting many back into their houses (TV, Internet and shopping) How do we get people out and together? I don’t know. But I’m sure it won’t be the old front street shopping. In my humble opinion.

That photo is a couple of years old and it was stripped down to the minimum requirements for transport to one of the compulsory inspections of welding, joints etc. Unfortunately, not a lot has been done the past two years as the epilepsi which followed the head injury meant he could not use welding equipment. Since four weeks ago he's epilepsi free and no longer treated so he'll be back into it as soon as covid-19 allows. The bodywork is aluminium and the 'nose-cone' is complete. I think I may be getting the uypholstery jobs!

We have wonderful hats and goggles to match and OH also has a white racing suit (how practical is that, I ask you)! I'll see if I can get him to model them for you.

Best Covid therapy ever, getting down and "fixing stuff " oil and grease everywhere, finding muscles you forgot existed! then the pleasure of achievement! I've just replaced the rear axles and added a couple of period safety features, very rewarding at the end of the day. White racing suit, naturally only way to show the oil and grease1

I've never been into cars. As long as it gets me from A to B I'm happy.☺️ I was asking as one grandson's partners dad has half a dozen older cars that he and his son have restored. Can't remember what make and model they all are but they have taken the storage of them rather serious. When they had their house built they added on a spare house shell - heated. That shell of a house is where they keep the cars.

No I don't have a period type hat but my friend has a Biggles type helmet with goggles, I very  occasionally use a hat but these are what I use.

  13. Alan, The truck is in a tent style garage at the side of my house, unheated. The car is in my attached garage, heated. The ambulance belongs to my doctor and it is in his heated garage, He also has a 1915 touring he moved to another garage for the winter, I think his wife wanted an indoor space for the winter!

I drive the car quite often but not in the rain!

Love the car Vic! My OH is green with envy. He's building a sports car from scratch. Started 2012 and it's coming along nicely.
