Bedlington Through in the Vase

Neil

The Terriers faced Consett on a wind swept day in the 1st round proper of the FA Vase, just a couple of weeks after making the same journey in the league and came away empty handed. With the wind gusting through County Durham, other games in the region had already fallen victim to the weather but this game was never in doubt.

Playing into the wind, Bedlington struggled to make any real impact in the first half, but did manage the odd foray forward. Consett didn't use the wind to their advantage, constantly over hitting balls and being caught offside.

The second half was a different story and with the Bedlington rear guard in ominous form, there were always going to be chances at the other end. Lee Ludlow gave the visitors the lead with a wind assisted drive from outside the box which beat the keeper all ends up.

The lead was doubled midway through the half when Gareth McAlindon's looping corner deceived the "˜keeepr and defender on the line and floated nicely over their heads and into the goal.

The win sees Bedlington make the draw for the second round which is made around lunch time on Monday 5th October, news will appear on the Terriers website ASAP. The game is due to be played Saturday 14th November.
