Netherton Colliery Silver Model Band 1906

Searching the www for local pit bands and their banners Google threw up a site, Internet Bandsman's Everything Within (IBEW) that collects colliery brass band photos from the UK AND the rest of the world. I have been in contact with the web sites owner/webmaster, Gavin Holman and is aim is to allow everyone, in the world, access to the site and the info that has been gathered - extract of email from Gavin :- 'Alan Feel free to use any of the images as you wish. I'm happy to support any initiatives that maintain the links to the past and preserve memories etc.

Of course, in years gone by, the miners' picnics were a major feature of the life of the pits in the north. It is sad that none remain (as far as I know) and only the Durham Miners' Gala  exists as a reminder of the hundreds of pits, miners and bands of the past.

One other band photo on the IBEW site is Netherton Colliery Silver Model Prize Band. The Bass drum in each photo appears to be the same one.

I have not scrutinize the faces in both photos to see if it is the same band, but you would expect that Netherton only had the one brass band.

I started my Brass Band "career" with Netherton about 1972/3 aged 6. Both my parents played and over the years I played with a few different bands.
I've a lot of pics to upload, most with identifed players (my dad was obsessive about "tagging" them).
AFAIK, Netherton only had the one band but the name changed a few times over the years until the pit closed and they became Brentford Nylons Band, practice room then moved to the factory in Cramlington.

Not yet, I'm trying to create an album with 36 images and somehow managed to lose the entire thing.
Should be uploaded in the next 30mins.
Just been there, very poor layout and design, lots of bands from Northumberland missing.
