Barrington children Queens coronation 02-06-1953

Photo posted on sixtownships Facebook site by John Dawson.

Not an school end of year photo but I would assume all of this lot did attend Barrington CP through the 1940s and 1950s.

what was number 2 bobby ramsey dressed as :D or has he been down the pit

Hula Hula pit lass - plenty straw and coal available from the Barton rows. Sadly Bobby no longer with us but he did end up working in the pit(s).

Grass skirts and 'black' were very exotic at the coronation celebrations in Netherton Colliery as well. I think the influence came from the visit of Queen 'Saloty' of Tonga to attend the coronation. She was probably the first non-white seen, on TV and in newspapers, by the colliery children.

Marilyn & Bob Muter, off the Barrington, Barnt' n  memories and stuff!! Facebook group have posted a full photo, that has not been flipped, and the names from the flipped image have been added. Previously it was thought that the fancy dress event was for the Queen's coronation in 1953 but now as more of the kids, and their approximate ages, have been established this photo was c1949.
