If one drop of rain falls in a field, doubles in size every day and in 600 days it becomes a lake, how many days did it take to reach half of its size?

If it doubles it size every day then it was half its own size the day before the 600th

Math? Maths?that bit was part of the red herring, just like most of the rest of it!

heres one for you, And no calculators please! do it in your head!

What is half of 99½?

(thats 99½ divided by 2 for the ones looking for the trick!)

Be honest and say how long it took you too!

Never did get an answer tho!

Amazing how many people say 48¼ tho....

i do it a different way, but whichever is easier...

99½ + ½ =100

100 divided by 2= 50

½ divided by 2= ¼

50 - ¼ = 49¾

so what would a_n = \frac{\sqrt{a_{n-1}^2 + \frac{1}{a_{n-1}^2} + 6} - a_{n-1} - \frac{1}{a_{n-1}}}{2} equall then?

a_n

=

\frac{\sqrt{a_{n-1}^2 + \frac{1}{a_{n-1}^2} + 6} - a_{n-1} - \frac{1}{a_{n-1}}}{2}

either a_n or \frac{\sqrt{a_{n-1}^2 + \frac{1}{a_{n-1}^2} + 6} - a_{n-1} - \frac{1}{a_{n-1}}}{2} ... doesn't the equation speak for itself?

I'm unsure whether we can work it out without the values of a or n anyway? :o

Just as easy as it was for you to type in "Hard Maths" into google, it's just as easy typing:

"a_n = \frac{\sqrt{a_{n-1}^2 + \frac{1}{a_{n-1}^2} + 6} - a_{n-1} - \frac{1}{a_{n-1}}}{2}"

into google and getting the answer. Try it.
