Watch the Football!

Recommended Posts

Really! There's football on the telly this evening?

My old man, 3 sons and 7 grandsons ( I've got my own team), sauna going full blast even though it's a heatwave outside, beer, crisps,  dip sauces, peanuts, beer, popcorn, a selection of dried susages - and did I mention beer - all over the place. They told me they were having a book appreciation meeting.

And the Swede's have given Germany a life line CL!

If England finish top of Group G then they will face the runners-up in Group H.

If they finish second, they will play the winners of Group H, but that could mean they go on to face Brazil or Germany in the quarter-finals:wave: as opposed to Mexico or Serbia:thumbsup:.

But hang-on-a-moe - we have The Bedlington Terrier on our side  :-

Our chances get better and better!

I was going to say: - put your cash up front, but you probably don't have any.  Sweden is the most cashless society on the planet - barely 1% of the value of all payments made using coins or notes last year.

Maddy Savage -  British freelance journalist & presenter in Sweden says :- "It's been mainly positive reactions. We love to use our cards here in Stockholm."

Across the country, cash is now used in less than 20% of transactions in stores - half the number five years ago, according to the Riksbank, Sweden's central bank.

Coins and banknotes have been banned on buses for several years after unions raised concerns over drivers' safety.

Even tourist attractions have started to gamble on taking plastic-only payments, including Stockholm's Pop House Hotel and The Abba Museum.

Could the World Cup final be

True, but there' a huge protest movement against the speed at which 'plastic' and 'online' payments are taking over. Many people, elderly in particular, are becoming economically isolated due to poor computer skills and the lack of Internet  availability  - especially in the northern regions where those telephone services which exist leave a great deal to be desired. It's not uncommon to have to drive several miles to use your mobile phone.

It's also very time consuming to pay without hard cash. Yesterday I stood in a queue of 16 people to buy some fresh strawberries from an outdoor stall. They were already packed and weighed so it was only a question of picking up the box and paying. I waited 10 minutes in 28 degrees with a load of fresh produce in my trolley and during that time only two people were served. The reason? Paying by direct bank transfer with a mobile phone. Fearing that my Sunday roast was being cooked in the trolley, I gave up and headed for another supermarket where I could buy them indoors using cash.

But back to football! I think we are in with a chance here - well, a better chance than previous years. Switzerland next and it's 16 years since they last met each other (according to the old man). And most of the tough guys are already out of the competition. I'll put a tanner on it if you like.

Now you're just trying to baffle me with science, Eggy! Are these telephone numbers to the players?

I have no idea -  Ave Wgt -  to me would be Average Weight but that doesn't fit.

Half time and there's only two things I have to say:

- Who the H3ll picked that strip for the Swedish goalkeeper! He looks like a bad day in the Findus frozen pea factory!

- That must be good, substantial, British kniker elastic in the Swiss team's shorts!

Champagne on ice and waiting.

Well I'm with you ♀️ and I don't like the ball, or the hair cuts, either:punk:.

I think the Swiss keeper's 40 denier tights are way to evocative.:)

I hope it doesn't go to penalties:dribble:
