    • A brand new service will offer life-long support to people with autism in South Shields.
The new 'autism hub', opened by the mayor and mayoress of South Tyneside this month, will offer occupational therapy, mental health help and peer support for people with the condition throughout the area.
Councillors say they're responded to a need created by an above-average number of people with an autism diagnosis in the borough, as parents, carers and those with a diagnosis told the council they needed more local support.
One of those who can't wait to start using the new hub is little Jak Brunton, and his mum Jay.
For Jak, who turns four on Monday, regular sessions at a Toby Henderson Trust centre in Bedlington have been a lifeline, helping him connect with his family and supporting them as they understand his needs.
The Jarrow family travel at least once a week to Northumberland for invaluable one-to-one sessions, so the opening of a hub close to home in South Shields will make a huge difference to their lives.

Any idea what is going to happen to the site ot the now demolished Elliotts Garage?
    • By BigTessi
Can anyone shed some light on the work going on at the old elliots garage site? Someone told me that there is going to be a old folks home built there, then someone else told me that the planning permission for that fell through.
I have searched the council websites for info but they havent come up with much as yet.
If it is going to be a residential home, which company is it for? I can find the name of the building contractors but not the actual company who they are building it for ( if they are building anything at all!)
Any info would be very much appriciated.

Do you think we could recreate Bedlington Front Street from years ago by using old pics ?
I think it would be worth doing.
Malcolm , i reckon it would be good for your project. What do you think.
      an example
here's two pics , we could add on to these and re-create the street if we could get enough pics from that time

Has anyone got any updates regarding Tescos. It's gone very quiet. They have done exactly what everyone say they do buy up all the shops and then have the monopoly of the high street and then do nothing. Who is fighting for us at the moment or have we been forgotten. The Bedlington front street looks great at the moment with the new fronts been put on the shops but there are no decent shops now . No real reason to shop apart from food at Tescos which is exactly what they wanted. We are making do with a sub standard Morrisons and Tescos .
