Don't know if it was sold in 2012 when this post started but I see it's back on the market via Rightmmove/Mike Rogerson for £165,000 and they even give some history of the building - The Laird's House. Was there a topic/posting asking for places to be nominated for a museum or is it just my wandering mind? Anyway, just the place for the Bedlington Development Trust to invest in, Malcolm must be looking for places to invest this years budget :-

*** COMMERCIAL PROPERTY - FRONT STREET - GARDENS TO REAR - NO UPPER CHAIN ***

Maggie/915 : "I hope someone invests in the property who will develop the site quickly ."

I had a brief chat with the current owner late last year (when the building was for sale for offers around £180,000 ), the 2012 date sounds about right for when he bought it.

Hopefully someone will find a way to take it on as a project and sympathetically restore it, it would be a real shame if such a spectacular building was left to deteriorate or lost its character as part of its redevelopment.

Keith, I honestly wouldn't know what a cup of coffee in Bacci's tasted like. Just read what Symptoms has to say about the place! Definitely not a place for the tender gender of Netherton. No, give me Jimmy Millne's any day. He was a great host as well. He went from table to table talking to everybody. Sometimes he'd greet you in the doorway, escort you to a seat, carry your shopping bag and get your coffee from the counter. Made you feel like royalty.

Symptoms, In answer to your query about the cafe at the station, that wasn't Bacci's. It was Moscardini's, or Moskies as it was better known. Can't remember the guy's first name. Pete would probably be able to tell you.

I was a regular in Baccis not only to play on the machine but meet there every Sunday morning before football, this was from about 74 to 84 and there was no billiard hall upstairs at that time and the lads I knew who went in there definately weren't your dodgy type and the shop at the station used to be called "Mario's" by then, good times though

Baccis used to have a shop at bedlington Station, but well before my time. The cafe at the Station, that we (Bedlington Station people) grew up with in the 60s was Moscardiniis - never heard the name 'Mario's' used for Moscardiniis, or Baccis.

Would Mario's just be the 'Top-End' lads name for Mosciis ?

Can't recall a Mario, it must have been after I moved away, 1969. In the sixties the old man, the owner, was Joe Moscadinii and his son was Bernard. Bernard dividing his time between the cafe and the snooker hall - Annie & Norman (from South Row I think) were in the snooker hall full time.

oh I'm talking about mid 70s early 80s it was a cafe with a few pinball machines in it and if you got sick of Baccis at the market place in Bedlington then you could go down to Marios at the station for a change,he wouldn't stand any messing though but it killed an hour or two

Alas I don't  Eggy

Me neither - an old school mate got in touch and said he had our final year class photo, 1965. Unfortunately he couldn't get a decent image (he hasn't a scanner) and you can't make out anyone, it's so blurred  :(. He has had a few attempts at taking a photo of the photo but all blurred .

Your both wrong,

Eddie Milne was the MP that wasn't quite whiter than white,In fact he was a load of crap just like todays MP. The house that you refer to was owned by Jimmy Milne a very respectable business man in the town, in fact he could be remembered as Mr Bedlington.Must get the facts right lads!!

What a truly santimonious response.
