NEIL ARMSTRONG'S SECRET

In case you didn't already know this little tidbit of

trivia, it might make you chuckle when you read it.

ON JULY 20, 1969, AS COMMANDER OF THE APOLLO 11 LUNAR

MODULE, NEIL ARMSTRONG WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO SET FOOT ON THE

MOON.

HIS FIRST WORDS AFTER STEPPING ON THE MOON,

"THAT'S ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND,"

WERE TELEVISED TO EARTH AND HEARD BY MILLIONS.*

BUT JUST BEFORE HE RE-ENTERED THE SPACECRAFT FOR THE RETURN JOURNEY TO EARTH

, HE MADE THE ENIGMATIC REMARK "GOOD LUCK, MR. GORSKY".

MANY PEOPLE AT NASA THOUGH IT WAS A CASUAL REMARK

CONCERNING SOME RIVAL SOVIET COSMONAUT.

HOWEVER, UPON CHECKING, THERE WAS NO GORSKY IN

EITHER THE RUSSIAN OR AMERICAN SPACE PROGRAMS.

OVER THE YEARS MANY PEOPLE QUESTIONED ARMSTRONG AS

TO WHAT THE 'GOOD LUCK, MR. GORSKY' STATEMENT MEANT, BUT ARMSTRONG

ALWAYS JUST SMILED.

ON JULY 5, 1995, IN TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA , WHILE ANSWERING

QUESTIONS FOLLOWING A SPEECH, A REPORTER BROUGHT UP THE 26-

YEAR-OLD QUESTION TO ARMSTRONG. THIS TIME HE FINALLY RESPONDED.

MR. GORSKY HAD DIED, SO NEIL ARMSTRONG FELT HE COULD NOW

ANSWER THE QUESTION.

IN 1938, WHEN HE WAS A KID IN A SMALL MID-WESTERN

TOWN, HE WAS PLAYING BASEBALL WITH A FRIEND IN THE BACKYARD. HIS

FRIEND HIT THE BALL, WHICH LANDED IN HIS NEIGHBOR'S YARD BY THEIR

BEDROOM WINDOW.

HIS NEIGHBORS WERE MR. AND MRS. GORSKY.

AS HE LEANED DOWN TO PICK UP THE BALL, YOUNG

ARMSTRONG HEARD MRS. GORSKY SHOUTING AT MR. GORSKY.

"SEX! YOU WANT SEX?! YOU'LL GET SEX WHEN THE KID

NEXT DOOR WALKS ON THE MOON!"

TRUE STORY.

And any story which ends with True Story is a myth, apparently this is one of the biggest hoaxes on the internet today. But would be funny if it really happened :)

Should that not be getting a ride up the stairs or falling down them? Considering your age that is :dribble: :dribble:

AHEM, I will have you know I am in perfect health on parr with someone 20 years my senior. Anyhow that statement is rich coming from someone who portrays himself to be a doddery old fart with long wiskers , a crooked stick and a pointy hat :P:P:P:P

There's no apparently - it's a Jewish joke, or started out as one! The original is slightly more raunchy, and dates from a circa 1995 comedy/humour newsgroup posting. Like many internet phenomena it does the rounds over and over again, often at intervals of several years.

You can check what Armstrong/Aldrin etc. actually said here: http://www.hq.nasa.g...1/a11.step.html and you'll note that NASA has updated the page to say "...let me state that Neil never said "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky" at any time during the mission. Indeed, on November 28, 1995, Neil wrote for the ALSJ, "I understand that the joke is a year old. I first heard it in California delivered by (comedian) Buddy Hackett".

What is amusing is the speech Richard Nixon was to deliver in circumstances of them not returning, particularly as all three Astronauts are still around and Nixon has been dead for 17 years: http://beconfused.co...ed-on-the-moon/

Merlin, seen as we are going back in time a bit with Neal Armstrong and the moon landing can you update me with a more recent happening? The Bedlington Beast, has there been anymore sightings? :D

Pete no more sightings, though not really been the golf weather. I had a wander up to the course when the snow was down, but just the usual tracks, bunnies, deer, fox etc but no beastie tracks. Any way glad to see you out of hibernation, bit early though ain't it Pete :dribble: :dribble:
