Netherton Colliery Doctor Late 1920s

Hello all,

Just found out today that my grandad, Alan Gray (or Allan Gray) was a doctor at Netherton Colliery in the late 20s. (He was fined for riding a motorcycle through Blyth while under the influence in September 1927, and that's the info given in the newspaper report.)

I never knew him, and nor did my father. Alan was a bit of a black sheep, let's say. He died in 1961. But I'm keen to find out anything I can about him, and find photos and documentation if possible.

I know he qualified as a doctor in Newcastle at the end of 1925, and was a GP in Manchester by 1931, so my guess is he spent the years inbetween at Netherton. Someone who did meet him in the 30s told me he had a reputation for being good with respiratory illnesses, which figures.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

thanks,

Steven Gray.
