Okay so this is my first spoutings of rubbish regarding my music tastes and experiences. I have never blogged before but hoping to spend more time listening and sharing the music with strangers and strange folk.
First post is off the back of a recent visit to The Sage, Newcastle to see The Smoke Fairies. They were being supported by Sea of Bees and Jonny & Lucy. Sea of Bees appear to be supporting The Smoke Fairies quite a but but this was the first time I had seen either of the support acts and a second tase of The Smoke Fairies, the first being at The Green Man Festival 2010.
Overall I was disappointed with The Smoke Fairies performance. Not due to their abilities or their music but we just prefer the more acoustic sound at the moment. They played a good performance and sounded crisp and clear, the violin player had a cool moustache and very upbeat. Only caught a glimpse of them at The Green Man festival but was too busy adventuring and didn't hang around.
Jonny & Lucy were interactive with the audience and very unorganised, or so it seemed at first, which later unravelled to be part of their frienship on stage and just general banter mixed with nerves. Jonny's family being in the audience and playing in such an environment as The Sage.
They started out introducing each other and getting a giggle from the audience. Jonny with his guitar and Lucy with her fiddle they encapsulated you waiting for them to start and the sound that came from them was a blend of traditional American and english folk. Each song had it's own feel and took you from a warm smile to a near dance.

It turns out a couple of days of investigating these two further that they played at The Green Man festival but we bloody missed them! Oh well there's always this year.
Check out Jonny & Lucy at their website or their Myspace page.
