J R Johnson – Closing Down!
Another local family business that’s been there as long as anyone can remember looks about to shut its doors for the final time. J R Johnson’s Footwear in the Market Place – synonymous for generations with Clarks Shoes – is reported by Bedlington.co.uk stalwart HP to be having a Closing Down Sale.
At one time a thriving business with branches at all points North - even in alien Ashington – it will doubtless leave yet another boarded-up shop front on the Front Street. Proprietor Clive Johnson inherited the chain from his father at a time when Bedlington still had a thriving small-business community, and it’s a matter of local amazement that he has bravely battled the odds for so very long.

I managed to get quite a few pairs of sandals there in the past. Were always willing for me to take shoes away for family members to try on.
No boards for Johnson’s thankfully! A coffee shop in it’s place – coming soon!
fab a coffee shop thats just what we need not! how about somewhere where we can actually buy something in bedlington !! Its so annoying that you cant buy a gift for someone , any items of clothing or toys unless its from a newsagents !! Johnsons should stay with help from the council to overcome the financial hardship with reduced rates and they should stock more fashionable stock then we would shop more often as there is no competition in bedlington, we’ve only got estate agents, hair dressers, places to eat tescos and netto !! We need more varitey of shops come on surely everyone else is sick of having to nip to blyth or cramlington to by things
dont let the tuf shoes sign come down as its just part of the bedlington furniture I know im home when i see that sign
I am currently speaking to business link in the hope of opening a shop similar to that of Spend And Save which will sell a little bit of everything. This is only in discussion stage at the moment but if this shop is available it would be perfectly situated.
